Her Story

Shurmeen grew up in Curaçao, and was shaped by a culture rooted in diversity, simplicity, and resilience. Growing up on a small island taught her that her environment would never define the size of her dreams. Her upbringing instilled in her the values of authenticity, kindness, ambition, and compassion — qualities that continue to guide her both personally and professionally.

She currently works in the financial industry, a field she has always been passionate about pursuing. Deeply passionate about youth development, she believes every young person deserves encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to recognize their potential and pursue their dreams. She is also a strong advocate for kindness and genuine human connection, believing that empathy and compassion have the power to strengthen communities and inspire positive change.

One of her proudest achievements has been completing both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees abroad. Leaving home to study abroad required courage, independence, and determination. Those experiences played a significant role in shaping her confidence, resilience, and personal growth, and today she proudly uses her knowledge and experiences to contribute back to Curaçao and inspire others to dream beyond their comfort zone.

She is naturally thoughtful, observant, and intentional in how she connects with others. Her calm nature allows her to lead with empathy, listen carefully, and build meaningful relationships.

She enjoys sharing about Curaçao. The island’s culture, traditions, and multilingual beauty is something she takes great pride in, especially when it inspires others to discover and appreciate its uniqueness.

Another moment that represents “my Curaçao” for her was seeing Blue Wave make history by reaching the World Cup for the first time. It was a powerful moment of unity, pride, and possibility that showcased the strength and spirit of the island on the world stage.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys playing padel, appreciating the way the sport brings people together in a fun, energetic, and social environment. For her, it represents connection, teamwork, and positivity.

Her decision to compete for Miss Universe Curaçao 2026 is rooted in her desire to inspire others to dream boldly, believe in themselves, and lead with purpose. Through this platform, she hopes to represent authenticity, resilience, and pride for her island while showcasing the talent, ambition, and strength of the people of Curaçao on a global stage.
